Piala Malaysia 2009 | Negri 1 Johore 0
Negri left it late until the dying minutes to seal the fourth win in four matches against resilient Johore FA in Paroi last night. The goal came from an own goal by Rizal Roslan as he tried to clear a dangerous cross from Negri international striker, Zaquan Adha.
Johore made it clear from the start that they want to go back to Johore Bahru with at least a point and they were very organised at the back to frustrate Negri forwards led by Zaquan Razak and Idris Karim.
Idris, who’s looking more and more comfortable in his new role as a supporting striker had a great chance to put Negri 1-0 up in the first half when Shukor Adan dispossessed Johore forward and found Idris unmarked in the far post. Idris’s net busting shot however were met by a fantastic reflex by the goalkeeper, Norazlan Ghazali and the rebound ball was easily cleared away by Johore defence.
Norazlan Ghazali were called a few times in the second half to tip away Idris and Zaquan’s headers and S. Kunalan screaming shot from outside the 18 yards.
The game was marred towards the end of the match as Johore were pressing hard to find an equaliser and forced to commit a successive dubious tackles sending Negri players and coaches livid.
Negri squad however were clearly in jovial mood after continuing their perfect records in the group once dubbed as the death group.
They will travel to Kuching to face Sarawak this Saturday and needed a win to confirm their place in the quarter-finals.
